FINDING A QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR IN THE LISTER-SINK METHOD
Barbara Lister-Sink has taught hundreds of pianists and organists over the last 40 years, both in institutions (Amsterdam Muziek Lyceum, Duke University, the Eastman School of Music, Salem College and the Brevard Music Center) and privately. She has also given hundreds of workshops and masterclasses throughout North American and northern Europe. Thousands throughout the world have now viewed her DVD Freeing the Caged Bird. However, brief or even lengthy exposure to the Lister-Sink Method does not constitute adequate preparation for teaching it. Due to Lister-Sink’s desire to insure the highest quality and success rate, she has now begin to train instructors intensively through a rigorous curriculum of study at Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC.
Fully Certified Instructors in the Lister-Sink Method will have completed at least 2 semesters of courses, including Biomechanics of Injury-Preventive Keyboard Technique, Pedagogy of Injury-Preventive Technique Through the Lister-Sink Method, Keyboardists Injuries – Causes and Cures, Alexander Technique and Applied Piano. They will also have to demonstrate their technique in the service of compelling music-making. As a consequence of this new program, the number of serious keyboardists from around the world who are studying to become certified is rapidly growing. There are also a number of teachers who have studied at length with Barbara Lister-Sink that she believes are qualified to teach the principles of good, whole body coordination embodied in the Lister-Sink Method. Therefore, the list of teachers will be divided into several groups. I. Certified Instructors or Instructors-in-Training II. Teachers, Students & Performers Who Have Studied the Lister-Sink Method Extensively with Barbara Lister-Sink III.
